"You could easily get stuck in reasoning how astonishing the fact is that so many great talents has emerged out of this tiny little island in the Caribbean called Jamaica. With this in mind it shouldn't be surprising even to newcomers to reggae music that no matter how talented some of the artists may be, that in itself was never a guarantee to stay on top and in musical shape too for that matter, even though this goes for most of popular music - whatever the genre might be. Naturally, some of them become pretty obscure over time. Collectors and cultists has kept many of them close to heart for a number of years and for some of these obscure names a following has been established that in most instances the artist himself is totally unaware of, having withdrawn from the scene years back. And believe me, the examples of this kind are many. One such exquisitly obscure artist - in terms of greater talent, and so on - from the golden years of the early to mid 1970's that I wanted to find out more about, and told in his own words of course, was the man called Keith Morgan, better known under his alias Sang Hugh. This man arose to prominence in 1972 through the efforts of producers Hugh Madden, Niney The Observer and Lloyd F. Campbell, having cut his debut disc for the former and getting his breakthrough with the latter two. This hit song was titled 'Rasta No Born Yah' and is a prime example of what the music would sound like in Jamaica over the remaining decade; a cry of the 'sufferah', the so called 'roots music'; music strongly identified in Rastafarian philosophy and experience. I linked up with Keith from his Negril base in March, '04 to get a pretty rare discussion going of his 'lost' career, something I truly hope will be revived in a serious way sooner rather than later. My thanks to the man himself, Sis Irie especially (without whose assistance this probably wouldn't have happened, so I-ternal thanks), Bob Schoenfeld, Donovan Phillips, Tim P, Steve Barrow and Michael de Koningh.

ich kenne das aus einer sammlung eines bekannten und hatte es jahrelang auf einer kassette.
auch wieder sehr schöne fette basslines, coole channel one/king tubby-production.

fally lover ist auch eines der alben, das mich schon lange fasziniert. roots radics als backingband und richtig schöner klassischer channel one sound... für mich eigentlich so langsam die zeit, wo der sound mir etwas zu dancehallig wurde.
aber fally lover ist ein klassiker. gehört zu meinen lieblingsplatten.
das cover allerdings, finde ich ziemlich scheiße...

hello ITAL-people




dieser blog soll euch mit schönen roots-reggae, dub und early
dancehall, aus der zeit zwischen 1970 - 1980 versorgen.
ich werde hier meine lieblingsscheiben und eigenen compilations, mit
cd-covern und pipapo posten und hoffe ich treffe hier mal den einen
oder den anderen, der sich das mal runterlädt.

ich sammle seit 23 jahren platten und mit reggae habe ich angefangen.
mit singles habe ich gar nicht erst angefangen, habe zwar ein paar,
aber das ist eher nicht erwähnenswert.
vinyl ist zwar schon das schönste von allem, aber ich habe angefangen
das ein bißchen abzulegen. mich interessiert vor allem die musik. auf
welchem medium ist erstmal egal.

es gibt in meiner reggae geschichte vor allem eine musik-kassette,
das "orange-tape". harry, einer meiner besten freunde (bis heute),
hat das mal zusammengestellt, aus einer plattensammlung, vom bruder
seines freundes...schon lange her. wir wussten lange nicht alle
interpreten einzuordnen, (jah lion-columbian colli, ein bißchen lee
perry und so), auf jeden fall hat diese kassette seine spuren
hinterlassen. ich werde diese aufnahme, eine compilation, demnächst
auch mal hier posten.

aus der sammlung von meinem anderen freund bob, gibt's auch noch was interessantes zu posten.
aber erstmal werde ich ein paar platten aus meinem archiv feilbieten:

als erstes habe ich hier eine sehr rare platte, die ich auch schon echt ewig kenne.
ich würde mal sagen, man könnte es instrumental-reggae nennen. oder percussive-instrumental-reggae.
dub würde ich es es meiner meinung nach nicht nennen.
das cover ist nicht das original cover. ich würde sagen, eine promo-copy.
